Just like traditional school, the online learning environment requires roles and responsibilities. There are many ways to structure an online learning environment.

It is important to have a way to manage students and the learning material.  The two common ways to manage online learning are SIS and LMS. The management rolls are listed below.

SIS – (Student Information System): Management software	LMS – (Learning Management System: Manages digital learning materials
Student information         Grades            Payment	Delivery of materials            Reporting            Functionality

When an online organization grows jobs and rolls can be divided out even further.

The learning environment must also decide how to get content. They can buy content from an organization, create original content or do a little of both.  The teacher delivers the content, but may or may not create it. In addition, the teacher may or may not be responsible for aggregating data. In larger organization, additional employees may be hired for some of these roles.
