TOOL Capstone: Communicate
Communication was an interesting module. I
really did not consider the similarities and differences in communication
between the online learning environment and traditional school. It really made
me contemplate how much communication goes on in the traditional classroom. I
am answering questions and guiding all day long. This is very different in the
online community, yet students still need feedback and guidance. This module
allowed me to practice communicating. I realized that communicating is not just
discussing grades, but also communicating assignments and providing feedback. I
enjoyed personalizing learning in my Blendspace and other assignments. I think
it is essential to meet all learners’ needs. Feedback needs to be ongoing and
valuable to the learner. I was surprised by the low retention rate in online learning,
but I understand that connection is the key to success. Taking this class in an
asynchronous way requires self-efficacy that all learners may not have. Again,
I enjoyed reading my peers comments, but I think I would have enjoyed a synchronous
learning opportunity. It is important to
offer many opportunities to the learner to build self-efficacy. I learned some
new technology tools to put in my tool belt, and I feel that I am on my way to
understanding what makes an effective online teacher.
